Color Us Impressed with Sonance’s Incredible Array of Architectural Speakers
One of the fun things about being a technology integrator is seeing all the new technology and products coming down the pike. And when we see these things at the source as we did with Sonance, it's even more fun! Don't worry, it's not all fun and games – it's all in the name of offering you better products and solutions.
Founded in the early 1980s, Sonance is one of the true pioneers in architectural audio. Today, their line consists of a full set of speakers that hide discreetly inside homes and gardens while providing the type of audio performance that belies their size. Recently the company joined forces with James Loudspeaker, another industry pioneer, bringing a new level of audio performance and customization to architectural speakers.
Our Charlotte, NC, team visited the Sonance speaker studio at their beautiful Southern California home base. We’re excited by what we saw, and we want to share more with you about our experience below.

The Invisible Living Room
Can you spot the speakers in this room? We can’t either! This room uses the new Sonance Invisible Series, a high-quality speaker that is invisible only when it comes to your eyes. Your ears will appreciate their full, rich sound, and the interior designer in you will love their disappearing act. This particular room used a Samsung Frame TV that does its part to masquerade as artwork, and there is a full surround sound system in this room too. Sonance developed the Invisible Speaker Series for those that love great sound but don’t like the look of speakers competing with the décor. With the current generation, they have improved the sound quality and ease of installation and made them blend even more seamlessly into the walls.
The Sonance Theater
The Sonance Theater was set up to enable us to experience the full array of Sonance home theater speakers. It was packed with high-performance multi-driver models front speaker arrays and surrounds, as well as multiple ceiling speaker options perfect for three-dimensional Dolby Atmos surround sound. There’s no need to take up precious floor space in a home theater when you can have this elevated level of audio performance built into the walls. If you are considering a new or updated home theater, you should consider these options.
James Speakers
Sonance recently joined forces with James Loudspeaker, a company with a well-deserved reputation in high-performance architectural audio. We were able to demo the full line of James Small Aperture Series, one of our favorite lines for seamless integration in high-style homes with powerful performance. The secret lies in the design; it's like the opposite of the wizard in The Wizard of Oz, all show and no go. These speakers are little show and all go, with the small apertures hiding a large 3-way design box with a built-in subwoofer and separate midrange and tweeter for a rich, full sound that will make you wonder where the speakers are.
There was much more, but you can do your own Sonance virtual tour online.
