Oscar Movies Look & Sound Better with a Professional Home Theater System

Every fall and winter, serious Oscar-contending movies start to hit theaters. Yearly we can expect beautiful cinematography, vibrant sound mixing, and well-written dialogue. Whether you’re watching winners from last year like Green Book or The Favourite or this year’s nominees like Marriage Story, there’s a good way to do it—and then there’s the best way. Want to experience the best way?

Continue reading to learn about the latest home theater technology for your Lake Norman, NC home. With a home theater system that looks and sounds this good, your local cinema owners will be green with envy.

Richer Colors & Darker Blacks

When it comes to your home theater’s visuals, movies like Joker and The Irishman will look their best with true blacks and less ambient light. Those dark nighttime scenes will be aggravating to watch if you can hardly make out what is happening. That’s why we love full HD and 4K projectors by Sony. Its SXRD panels deliver better contrast for rich, inky blacks that make characters stand out better in dark scenes. At the highest end, Sony’s VPL Home Theater Projector provides more than four times the detail of Full HD.

That’s projecting the image, but what about the surface your movie is screened on? Projector screens by Screen Innovations, for example, use multi-directional ambient light rejection technology, so that even if there is light coming into your theater from a window or hallway, you’ll see more clearly. Of course, you could always add motorized shades to your theater to take care of that problem!

Powerful & Lifelike Sound

If you’re watching a movie known for its stellar sound mixing—like 1917, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, or Ford v. Ferrari, you’d be selling yourself short to use built-in TV speakers or a basic soundbar. With Dolby Atmos surround sound, you’ll hear the engine of cars moving across your theater or blasts from a World War I trench as if you’re in the action. The ‘immersive’ format of Atmos lets each sound move like an object, unrestricted to a left or right channel. Atmos enables filmmakers to assign sound to a place, not just a speaker, so it will sound as though action is genuinely moving through your space.

Hear Clearer Dialogue

Almost all movies include dialogue, but some rely more heavily on it. Without physical action scenes, you need to ensure you’re hearing the dialogue clearly in films like Little Women and Marriage Story to understand the plot. That’s where the center channel speaker in a surround-sound system comes into play. Most dialogue sounds are emitted from the center channel, which should be installed just above or below the middle of the screen. Music and sound effects will flow from the right and left speakers, so it’s important to bump your center channel to a high enough level so you’ll hear voices better. This will create a centered ‘sweet spot’ that encompasses you in the moment.
