Transform Your Living Room into a Home Theater with Media Room Designs

Transform Your Living Room into a Home Theater with Media Room Designs

The demand for dedicated home theaters is certainly changing. More homeowners want a multipurpose media room instead because they either don’t have the extra room or they feel it doesn’t fit their lifestyle. This isn’t exactly surprising since most families interact in the communal environments of a home. In a media room, your kids can watch cartoons while you cook dinner in the kitchen and you can still keep an eye on them. There’s definitely added benefits to keeping your theater system in the living room instead of the basement. But how do you keep the room looking beautiful while still performing perfectly when you want to enjoy a movie or play a video game? We have the answers in today’s blog on media room design.

Hiding Your Technology

There’s a common scenario that often plays out in Charlotte, NC homes – the husband wants a large flat-screen TV and full surround system in the living room. If he’s an audiophile, he probably wants to situate multiple loudspeakers in the room to create his sound nirvana experience. But the wife is more concerned about how all of this equipment is going to look. Whether it’s the husband or wife in the partnership, usually one of them focuses on the interior design while the other makes good, quality performance the priority. But when you work with The Integrated Home, you can have your cake and eat it to. We can hide all of the audio/video components so you only see them when you want to. Here are a few ways we accomplish that:

Motorization: We’ll hide a TV or screen in the ceiling or other wall enclosure and install a motorized lift so that it’s only visible when you want to use it. Push a button and the TV or screen will appear instantly out of the wall, creating that ‘wow’ factor.

Mirror TVs: Seura has designed TVs that are hidden in beautiful mirrors. One moment you look at the stylish mirror in your living room and see your reflection, and the next a movie appears in the middle of the glass.

Gaming

A popular and often addictive activity during the summer is playing video games. But how do you take your gaming sessions to the next level? Whether you are playing vintage consoles like Playstation or new ones like XBOX One, a video wall is a great way to display all the players’ views in the room. A video wall is made up of multiple televisions. You can display one large image on all of them or create a grid of multiple channels or views at once. Let’s say you are playing the classic Mario Kart, each player can follow their path on the large TV and enjoy an immersive experience. Add a surround sound system and you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a battle. If you need to pause, just press a button on the Control4 universal remote. The lights will come on, the game will stop, and you can pick up where you left off in a hurry.

Dolby Atmos: The Revolutionary 3D Audio Technology

Dolby Atmos: The Revolutionary 3D Audio Technology

There are many surround sound systems to choose from today, ranging from placing 2 to 10 speakers around the room. Additionally, there are multiple ways to achieve an immersive audio experience in your home. However, Dolby Atmos, a 3D audio format, stands out among them as a unique listening experience that you can enjoy right in your own home in the areas of Lake Norman or Charlotte, North Carolina. Dolby Atmos surround sound is well known and used often in commercial theaters across the U.S. and it has now made its way into home entertainment. Keep reading to learn how this revolutionary technology works, as well as what is required for your media room design or home theater installation.

What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is a special audio format that allows your speakers to play multichannel sound in a 3-dimmensional space. Traditionally, sound has been mixed creating two or more channels, or tracks to play from a few speakers. This type of sound mixing confines all the sounds to a few channels so you can only hear it from certain angles. However, with Dolby Atmos, sound is freed from these channels and treats specific sounds as individual files, called audio objects. These objects can be placed and moved anywhere in the room using in-wall speakers that are in font, back, and above you. The Dolby Atmos cinema processor decides which speakers it will use to create the realistic sound.

The movie's sounds flow all around you to completely immerse you in the action, heightening the impact of the show and creating a powerfully moving cinema experience. If you are watching Gravity for example, as the spaceship flies across the sky, you can hear the engines moving from one side of the room to the other via in-ceiling speakers above you. Or, if you are watching The Hunger Games, can watch Katniss shoot her arrow and hear the pulling of the bow at the front of the room, and the impact at the back through the speakers behind you. As a result, your home theater system is able to bring the movie to life as never before possible.

5 Tips for Enhancing Your Gaming Sessions with Automation

Video games are at the top of the list for many people during the holiday season. It doesn’t matter whether you are 10, 16 or 45, gaming is for everyone. A custom media room design is definitely for the ultimate gamer though; the die-hard fans will appreciate a room dedicated to playing their favorite systems. And we aren’t talking about just a plain home theater system; we can immerse you in all the fun with automation. Here are some ways we can tailor your video game room in Charlotte, NC with technology.

  1. Add Color to the Room

Smart lighting is a perfect way to make your gaming room bright, fun, and interesting. With Control4 lighting, you can press one button on a keypad and the room will change dramatically to a cozy lounge for playing video games. The lights will dim, but a few key areas will stay lit with bright blues, greens or any color you love.

Consider adding light behind the screens to add dimension to the room and accenting chairs or tables so you can see the drinks and food when you are snacking. We can even program the lights to flash when the delivery guy arrives at your front door. It will get your attention immediately when you’re in the middle of an intense game.

  1. Battle Other Players in Multi-screen Views

Games like Mario Kart or Fallout 4 are perfect for multi-screen mode. We can incorporate a video wall into your media room design so that each player’s view is displayed on a different TV. Video walls can also display one image on all of the screens at once for those times you are playing by yourself. Multiple TV screens give you the ability to configure the views in different ways, whether you are alone or battling four people.
