Surveillance in the Dark: Starlight Security Cameras

How Starlight Technology Is Redefining Low-Light Surveillance

It’s the middle of the night, and someone is approaching your home. They travel discreetly up the side of your lawn and break into your garage, tampering with the lock. Now they’re inside your house and are stealing your belongings.

If you have a smart security system, alarms and lights should have been activated automatically. But if your entire property isn’t covered, or if an intruder finds a way to avoid being seen, all you’ll be left with is dark, impossible-to-see footage on your security cameras. That will be no help when handing it over to the authorities, and you won’t be able to catch the criminal.

That’s where starlight security cameras are changing the game. The lowlight cameras make surveillance systems just as effective during the night time as during the day. To see how starlight cameras, like models by Luma, can help your Charlotte, NC, home, discover the benefits below.

What Is Starlight Technology?

Starlight refers to security cameras with individual sensors that provide improved night vision in low light conditions. You’ll be able to see images in the dark that would otherwise look pitch black to the human eye. Normally, our eyes cannot see below 20 lux. Starlight cameras, like ones by Luma, capture sharper and brighter images than seen at 0 lux. The technology suppresses light noise in videos and allows for full-color night vision. That means even if it’s dark outside, you’ll be able to tell what color shirt or car an intruder has or spot an animal in the shadows.

Starlight vs. Infrared

What makes starlight technology different from infrared? Infrared relies on IR light reflection to create an image, but starlight cameras use natural lights from other objects, even in very low light scenarios. For this reason, starlight cameras can see farther away than infrared with HD resolution. You’ll see more clearly and be able to catch movement and subjects in the background that infrared cannot see.

Where to Install Your Starlight Cameras

Luma Surveillance’s dome starlight cameras are sleek and available in multiple colors, so they’ll blend seamlessly into your property. The devices are also built to withstand all weather so that you can place them anywhere outdoors. Since starlight cameras can see farther than infrared, you can position them on the eaves of the house and roof for a full view of your yard. Be sure to cover all entrances, garages, and porches, and install the cameras at least nine feet high to avoid tampering by an intruder. As security professionals, we at The Integrated Home can help design and implement a foolproof surveillance system for your household.
